The two were introduced through a mutual friend and immediately hit it off. They came to us for their wedding hashtag and chose #StartColinUsTheGates to capture all of their wedding moments.
Colin pulled off the ultimate proposal, and Jenna had no idea it was coming. They went out to dinner on a Friday night, and Colin had planned to propose to Jenna at her parents’ house the next day. But on the ride home, Colin realized that it was the perfect night to do it. When they got home from dinner, they sat outside on the deck, had a drink, and listened to music. Colin asked Jenna to dance, and purposefully dropped his beer bottle behind her back. As she went to pick it up, Colin got down on one knee. When she turned around, Colin asked Jenna to marry him and her face was priceless. It was a perfect, candid moment that The Gates’ will remember forever.
Their wedding was at King Family Vineyards in Crozet, Virginia. Right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the vineyard has gorgeous views and a rustic, romantic vibe. The rose gold, champagne, and blush color scheme was classic, romantic, and timeless. The vineyard was full of candles to provide a warm, romantic light throughout the night. Jenna’s bouquet featured the King Protea flower, a flower she absolutely fell in love with when meeting with florists. Colin wore a yellow bowtie with little green bicycles on it to pay tribute to his family’s bicycle stores in northern Virginia.
Their big day started early (7am to be exact!), with Jenna and her nine bridesmaids getting their hair and makeup done. Champagne was flowing, music was bumping, and they were excited for the day ahead. For the guys, it was some hair gel and a shot of Jameson and they were ready to go.
Jenna and Colin chose to do a first look, a decision that can be hard for a bride and groom to make. While it’s the less traditional route, taking photos before the ceremony allows for much more time to enjoy the wedding and cocktail hour. For Jenna and Colin, they could not be happier with their choice. It was such a special moment for both of them.
They rented a photobooth, which was a huge hit with their guests! They used the photos from the photobooth as their guest book, which made for some hilarious pictures and notes.
To them, the best moment of the day was just having everyone they love together in one place, celebrating their love. The Gates’ are already avid travelers—so they decided to use the cash gifts to put towards a home instead of a honeymoon!
